People talk about making a difference but it’s the rare person who actually does something about it. Michael Brooke, publisher of the skateboarding magazine, Concrete Wave headed off to Israel to do something I find pretty damn cool. He hooked up with Surfing 4 Peace and the Peres Center for Peace to bring 30 longboards into a war torn country, do skate demos, and encourage Arab and Israel kids to skate together. One rad way to go about promoting World Peace if you ask me.
And btw – it looks like girls all over the world dig skateboarding – I’m loving these shots of the girls riding for the first time! To find out more about Longboarding for Peace click Here

This is amazing! It’s a great way to bring people together despite the issues in the country! It’s nice to see someone out there on the ground, helping, rather than just talking about helping.
While it is encouraging to see world customs being embraced, it is disheartening to know two things:
1. There are very strict rules about female behaviour in other countries. These young women, while courageous on the surface, face the truth of the very strong potential to be put to death.
2. further research indicates that skateboarding is damaging and further eroding historical landmarks.
do we support the brave or speak to maintaining the legacy that history has provided?
