Girls Kick Ass

You might want to have a stiff drink ready for this piece of complete disrespect & INSANITY..

I was so excited to see this new issue of TransWorld Surf on the newsstands, but after being totally stoked that it was titled “The Women’s Issue?” I realized after a closer look, that the surfer on the cover wasn’t a girl!  WTF? I flipped to the section about the girls and loved the action shots I saw with Rosy Hodge, Leila Hurst, Keala Kennelly, Kassia Meador, Lakey Peterson, Carissa Moore, etc. etc . Then I started reading – you better sit down for this one…  The article mentioned how last year they asked the girls questions like “are you fearful of surfing with sharks while on your period?” (no, I am not kidding). This year the  article tackled the subject of  “is there equality in men’s vs women’s surfing? and I liked the comparisons they showed like prize money, sponsorship money, etc .  Yet they had to once again throw in shit like “would you ever date a female surfer?”, and “is surfing in a G-String functional?” an amazing photo of Kassia Meader had the caption “Kassia hangs 22 – 10 toes, 10 fingers and 2 breasts”.  Seriously, are you guys in high school still?? or just idiots?? And on top of reading that lame-ass crap, I  kept coming back to that damn cover. If  the BIG Pink headline reads THE WOMEN’S ISSUE?”  (and yes I realize there is a question mark there)  shouldn’t you have a female on the cover? Or even a guy on left side, and a girl shredding on the right?  Was one measly cover too much to give the women? Were these stupid demeaning questions/comparisons really necessary? Do girls not shed as hard as the guys? SERIOUSLY.   What the fuck.

Nice job TW guys. You suck.  I hope some “chick” in the line up drops in on you. EVERY time.

WOW. that is SO awful. WTF is wrong with those people? Talk about an archaic and ignorant way of thinking! Very Poor Form!

  2. I could see my high school surfer friends thinking those thoughts, writing that article, and reading and agreeing with everything it said and all the while enjoying the pictures. I frequently tell my female friends that you really don’t want to know what a guy is thinking because most of us never made it out of the seventh grade when it comes to higher level thinking. The TW article validates my hypothesis. I apologize for my kind, but please don’t ask me what I am thinking.

  3. I just started following your blog, and tend to lurk the internet more than reply, but I feel the need to show support for your reaction to discrimination like this. Too often I’ve seen fellow females ignore sexism like it’s just a part of life. As someone that has played sports all her life, I know that skill has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with hard work.
